Wedding portraits painted from your photograph

Most wedding photos stay in an album or a cloud folder. A portrait takes one of them out and puts it on the wall, where it belongs.

What makes a good wedding portrait source photo

The dress, the suit, the bouquet and the setting all come from your photograph, so choose the image that holds the details you care about most.

Head-and-shoulders and waist-up photos give the strongest portraits. Wide shots of the whole venue leave faces small on the print.

Ceremony and confetti shots

Confetti, first-dance and vow-exchange photos carry movement and emotion, and both styles handle them well.

Check that faces are not heavily shadowed by a veil, hat or strong sunlight before uploading.

Older wedding photographs

A parents' or grandparents' wedding photo makes one of the most affecting gifts we see, particularly as a milestone anniversary present.

Scan or photograph the original print flat in daylight, keeping the camera parallel to the paper.

Watercolour or pencil for a wedding

Watercolour keeps the colour of the day: the flowers, the light, the greens of the venue. It is the more celebratory of the two.

Pencil is quieter and more formal, and works especially well from black-and-white wedding photographs or for portraits displayed in a hallway.

Anniversary and thank-you gift ideas

Because you receive a file rather than a single object, one wedding portrait can become several gifts.

  • A framed print for your own first anniversary (paper is the traditional gift)
  • Prints for both sets of parents from the same file
  • Thank-you gifts for bridesmaids and best men
  • A silver or golden anniversary print made from the original wedding photo
  • A guest-book cover or order-of-service illustration

How the process works

Upload the photograph, choose watercolour or pencil, and a watermarked preview appears in under a minute. If you like it, unlock the full-resolution file for $5.

You can unlock both styles separately if you cannot decide — many couples print the watercolour for home and the pencil as a gift.

Printing at wedding-gift quality

Print at 300 DPI up to 40 × 50 cm / 16 × 20 in. Cotton or textured fine-art paper gives watercolour a convincing surface; smooth matte paper suits pencil.

A white mount of 4–5 cm and a simple frame is the safest, most elegant presentation for a gift.
